Almost gave it 5 stars, but the price at $286.00 per night was a little steep. Other than that, we were happy with our stay here. I recommend requesting a room on the ground level. It was very nice being able to walk out the sliding door to the beach. An added bonus that the rooms have a full kitchen. The indoor pool/spa was very nice and clean as well. We ate at the market restaurant next door for lunch one day and we were pleasantly surprised with the yummy pretzel buns with the cheeseburgers. We would definitely stay here again.
This place is consistently fine. The hotel location is great, right on the beach and tucked near a very quiet residential section of town off the busy 101. The indoor water park is fantastic for kids and families and the pool stays open late for adults. However, the rooms are very basic. Even the family suites are old, dirty and in need of basic updates. The TVs are 10+ years outdated and small, the kitchens have little to no utensils or non-Dollar Tree garbage. It’s clear that the management rarely sets foot in the rooms because there are many small details missed. Only one garbage bag in the room, no dishwasher soap, tiny cheap pots and pans. Rooms are mostly clean, but lots of grime and built-up dust on non-obvious spots and surfaces. Overall, a place that has consistently been enjoyable because of the location but not because of the hotel itself. I’m sure they make more than enough money to care and upgrade anything.
The Driftwood is older. The location is great, the staff is really nice, and the rooms are set up so you can cook and have pets. All of that is why I give it 5 stars. To add to that, we all know that five stars can be quite different but I think it has to be relevant to the location, the age of the place, the care that the staff take and who it caters to. There are five star hotels all over the world that means something quite different to the five stars here. But if you want a few days away from the hot weather and want to take your pet and have a gorgeous Beach with people who care and don't overcharge, I'd say there's value there. And after all that I forgot my bathing suit!
The building and grounds are nice. The staff was great. Our room was clean but a bit small. Nothing to complain about that would cause us not to return because we brought our two big dogs, so any room would seem small. The room was quiet at night and easy beach access.
Our family of 5 and another couple, so 7 total, stayed in one of their 3 bedroom 2 bathroom suites for the week. I don't think there is a room with a bad view, unless weather is not cooperating. Access to the beach, conveniently located, yet tucked off of the beaten path, and indoor activities for the kids make this an amazing destination for a getaway.
