the service was great and the waitress was very funny and nice. i got the seafood pasta and it was amazing, the chef came up after i was done eating and asked if it was good and even took it back and put it in a togo cup with more garlic bread so i could have it at home. everyone was super nice and the prices for how much good food you get is great. absolutely delightful

We have visited Oregon for many years, and when in Winchester Bay, my wife really enjoyed the crab cocktail at Griff's. I was always hesitant to join her at first, but she finally convinced me in 2022 and I was hooked - the best crab cocktail we have had on the coast (a year ago). Novelli's in Florence was as good, but quite a bit more expensive and less crab. We ended up at Griff's more times than I can remember because the cocktail was so good and reasonably priced. It felt like a hidden gem.
This year in 2023 I am terribly disappointed. The price was the same ($12), but instead of a cup filled to the brim with crab, the cup was only half full with 3-4 pieces of leg meat resting on a bed of fine pickings (see the photos). Just to be sure we were not catching Griff's on a bad day, we went again, and today received the same minimalistic serving.
After consuming the leg pieces (a mouthful or two at best), the remainder was nothing but fine pickings, and for the first time I had to dump cocktail sauce into the cup (rather than dipping lump crab into the sauce) to make a sort of mush of sauce and crab pickings.
The crab place across the parking lot (that now has our business) sold us large whole crab, cooked and cleaned for only $8 more. My last crab was a tad over 2 pounds and I paid $20 for the crab. There was so much meat (all lump and virtually no pickings) that a single crab was almost too much to eat. In contrast, the Griff's crab cocktail was barely enough for an appetizer.
It appears that the crab cocktail is created from a few pieces of lump crab with lots of fine pickings which causes me to wonder where all the rest of the crab went.

Is what one would expect in a seafood tourist town. I enjoyed my beer with my arctic frosted mug. I would highly recommend the captains platter grilled, not fried.

We came here on a Saturday from Eugene - never visited before. I overheard the staff saying that someone didn’t show up for their shift, so I think the owner or manager was helping serve tables. We would never have known, because the service was still excellent and our food came out quickly and piping hot. I’m not much of a French fry person, but I ate every one - the best fries I have ever had! Hot, super crispy outside and soft inside! Delicious. Service, the food, the view were all wonderful. I had the friend shrimp and grilled scallops which also came with coleslaw. Coleslaw was fresh, crisp and delicious. The seafood tasted fresh, and cocktail sauce tasted homemade and had just the right amount of spice. My husband had the oyster Poor Boy Sandwich and loved it also. We will definitely come back to Griff’s. Nothing fancy but good food and good people.

My boyfriend and I went here last evening for dinner. First we walk in and sit down. The place is empty other than two people. The waitress comes up and doesn't even say, "Can I get you something to drink?" like a waiter usually does.
She slams down two water glasses and immediately starts bitching about how she's the only server and she just had to do a 12 top alone. She never smiled, she was completely unprofessional.
I wasn't that that hungry so I ordered just a Crab Louie salad with a side dish of scallops and prawns. She brings the prawns and scallops. They are the smallest, most pathetic looking prawns and scallops that I ever saw.
I took one look and sent it back. The cost would have been $17.00.
My boyfriend and I eat out a lot. Even if the food is mildly disappointing I've never sent anything back or written a bad review. This is how bad it was.
The Crab Louie was just okay. The crab was definitely not fresh. It had no flavor and and the texture was clearly frozen. I asked our grumpy server if the crab was fresh. In a vague way she said yes. It was a lie.
It befuddles me how a seafood restaurant, on the ocean, can't serve fresh seafood!
The prices were outrageous, the food was so bad and the service was awful.
Do yourself a favor and do not eat here. I have no idea how it rates 4 and a half stars.
